Shaq Towers Over The Rock In Vegas

July 1, 2025

OK, we get it! This story is more about wrestler-turned-actor The Rock more than Shaq, but the big man has a big part in it all. Besides, we love ‘em both, so hey… why not?

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had a hilarious moment backstage at the UFC Hall of Fame induction in Las Vegas this week—thanks to a grainy candid photo with his “big brother,” Shaquille O’Neal. After snapping a few promotional shots together on June 26 at T-Mobile Arena, Johnson couldn’t resist poking fun at their height difference. “Got me out here lookin’ like Kevin Hart 😂 Love U big brother,” quipped the 53-year-old action star—while Shaq, also 53, responded with a hearty laughing emoji.

Shaq went silent on social media (a classic move) and simply posted four pics: two with Johnson and actress Emily Blunt, and two more in a plush VIP lounge sans Blunt. Johnson rocked an all-white suit, Shaq donned a sharp gray jacket and black trousers, and Blunt brought a splash of sunshine in a vibrant yellow dress—Vegas at its finest.

But Shaq wasn’t just there for photo ops; he was in attendance to introduce boxing legend Vitor Belfort. Years ago, Belfort got into Shaq’s world by striking up a conversation on vacation and inviting him to a fight. “I had never seen a sport like that,” Shaq recalled in an earlier interview. “I’ve been a fan ever since.”

Emily Blunt was also embracing the MMA spirit. During a red carpet chat with MMA Fighting, she confessed her deep admiration for the sport. Her fascination only grew after starring in The Smashing Machine alongside Johnson, and she spoke passionately about her newfound respect for MMA’s intensity and artistry.

Later in the evening, Johnson and Blunt jointly honored UFC icon Mark Kerr, sharing reflections on his impact both in and out of the octagon. “It was important to me and to Emily… because MMA moves fast and everyone is getting better and better every day,” Johnson told MMA Fighting.

The event was more than just a ceremony—it was a convergence of superstars from diverse worlds, all brought together by combat sports. Shaq’s introduction of Belfort spoke to the symbiotic relationship between fighters and their fans. Blunt’s on-camera awe and reverence highlighted MMA’s growing appeal in Hollywood. And Johnson’s instinctive humor—reducing himself to a standout for being “short” next to Shaq—showcased the camaraderie between two legends who’ve transcended their original domains.

It wasn’t just a photo moment; it was a celebration of crossover appeal. NBA greatness meets Hollywood royalty meets MMA legacy—all on one stage in Sin City. And amid it all, Shaq remains the steady, understated presence: no captions, just giant steps and louder-than-life presence. Meanwhile, Johnson proved humor is timeless—even when you’re standing next to a seven-foot-tall friend.

All in all, it was one memorable night: legendary jokes, legendary figures, and a shared appreciation for the sport that unites them. And hey, if Shaq keeps posting these gold-star candid shots, maybe Johnson will start to look like Kevin Hart again—just one more reason to love the guy.
