As basketball fans know, Shaquille O’Neal has always believed in making an impact. During his NBA career, he dominated in the paint. These days, he’s just as determined to make a difference off the court.
That winning attitude was on full display this week as The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation hosted its annual Shaq-to-School Summer Fun Fest, giving hundreds of Southern Nevada kids a head start on the upcoming school year.
The event took place at the Andre Agassi Boys & Girls Club in Las Vegas, where the atmosphere felt more like a carnival than a school supply giveaway. Games, food, interactive activities and plenty of laughter filled the day as children from the Andre Agassi and James Boys & Girls Clubs celebrated the end of summer in style.
Of course, Shaq wasn’t about to let anyone leave empty-handed.
The foundation donated 260 backpacks packed with school supplies, helping students from both the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and Communities in Schools of Nevada head back to class with confidence. New backpacks, notebooks, pencils and other classroom essentials may seem like simple items, but for many families they can make a huge difference.

The event also showcased the creativity of the kids themselves. Everyone—from club members to staff—wore special event T-shirts featuring artwork created by two young winners of the organization’s T-shirt design contest. It’s exactly the kind of personal touch that turns a giveaway into a celebration.
Leaders from the Boys & Girls Clubs were quick to thank The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation for its continued partnership.
They noted that having the right school supplies helps students feel prepared and excited for a new school year, giving them confidence before they ever step into the classroom. That’s the kind of assist Shaq would definitely appreciate.
Several community organizations joined in to make the day even more memorable, including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Office of Community Engagement, Insperity, The Just One Project, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and Spread the Word Nevada. Together, they helped create an afternoon focused on learning, fun and community spirit.
While fans know Shaq for his booming personality, championship rings and hilarious television appearances, giving back has become one of the biggest parts of his legacy.

Through The Shaquille O’Neal Foundation, he has supported youth education, provided scholarships, funded mentoring programs and helped create opportunities for children who need them most. Whether he’s surprising families with holiday gifts, helping underserved communities or investing in organizations that empower young people, Shaq continues proving that generosity never goes out of style.
Sure, he still keeps us laughing on television and entertaining crowds as DJ Diesel. But stories like this remind us why so many people admire him beyond basketball.
At the end of the day, handing out backpacks may not earn a spot on the highlight reel, but helping kids start school with confidence is a pretty incredible way to score. And if there’s one thing Shaq has always loved, it’s making a big impact where it matters most.
