When Shaquille O’Neal shows up in town, there’s usually a pretty good chance something exciting is about to happen.
This time, however, the Big Diesel wasn’t there to talk basketball.
Instead, he was behind the turntables.
Shaq spent the weekend in Seattle performing as DJ Diesel, his wildly popular music alter ego that has become one of the most entertaining “side hustles” in sports. And if you’ve ever seen footage from one of his shows, you already know this isn’t a celebrity casually pressing a few buttons and calling it a night.
DJ Diesel goes all in.
Playing to a packed crowd in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square, Shaq delivered the kind of high-energy dubstep performance that has earned him a loyal following far beyond basketball fans. The seven-foot-one Hall of Famer brought booming music, nonstop energy, and plenty of crowd interaction.
Because, let’s face it, Shaq has never exactly been known for being shy.
One of the most memorable moments of the evening came when Shaq spotted a fan watching from a tree. Naturally, only Shaq could turn that into a headline-worthy moment by giving the fan a new nickname: Spider-Man.
The crowd loved it.

Even after retiring from the NBA more than a decade ago, Shaq continues to find new ways to connect with fans. Whether he’s making people laugh on television, launching businesses, appearing in commercials, or jumping on stage as DJ Diesel, he has a unique ability to turn almost any appearance into an event.
Seattle happened to be buzzing with excitement for another reason as well.
The city was hosting World Cup festivities, drawing sports stars and celebrities from around the country. Team USA had just picked up a big victory over Australia, creating an electric atmosphere throughout the city.
Several notable names were spotted around town, including NBA star Devin Booker, who reportedly smiled at the idea of bringing the beloved Seattle SuperSonics back someday. Seahawks legends Marshawn Lynch, Cliff Avril, and Russell Wilson were also part of the festivities, along with singer Ciara and numerous soccer personalities.
But while soccer dominated much of the conversation, Shaq managed to carve out his own spotlight.
That’s become something of a trademark for him.
Most retired athletes slow down after their playing days end. Shaq seems to have interpreted retirement as an opportunity to add five more careers to his résumé.

In addition to his broadcasting duties, business ventures, endorsements, and community work, DJ Diesel has become one of the biggest success stories in celebrity entertainment. He regularly performs at major music festivals and packed venues across the country, bringing the same larger-than-life personality that made him one of the most dominant players in NBA history.
The amazing part?
Fans seem to love him just as much behind the DJ booth as they did in the paint.
Whether he’s throwing down thunderous dunks, delivering hot takes on television, or dropping bass in front of thousands of fans, Shaq continues to prove that staying relevant isn’t about sticking to one lane.
It’s about having fun, connecting with people, and never being afraid to try something new.
And in Seattle, DJ Diesel did exactly that.
