For most people, one successful career would be enough. But Shaquille O’Neal has never been interested in doing just one thing.
Sure, we all know him as the Hall of Fame basketball superstar. We’ve also seen him everywhere from pizza commercials to insurance ads and countless TV appearances. But when the cameras stop rolling, Shaq swaps sneakers for headphones and transforms into DJ Diesel.
Now he’s bringing that larger-than-life energy back to Texas.
Shaq recently announced his “Texas Takeover,” a four-city tour that will roll through the Lone Star State this September. The tour helps build excitement for his popular electronic music festival, Shaq’s Bass All-Stars, which has become a favorite among EDM fans.
Sharing the announcement on social media, Shaq told fans, “I usually come to Texas once a year for my festival… but this year we’re mixing it up and doing a full Texas Takeover. See you in September.”
Sounds like classic Shaq—go big or go home.
Fans in four Texas cities will get a chance to catch DJ Diesel live:
- El Paso – September 17
- San Antonio – September 18
- Houston – September 19
- Dallas – September 20

Tickets are scheduled to go on sale this week, so anyone hoping to experience one of Shaq’s high-energy performances may want to act quickly.
While some people may think Shaq’s music career is a recent hobby, he’s actually been spinning records for decades. Long before sold-out festivals and massive stages, he was DJing parties during high school and while attending LSU. Even during his NBA career—and while releasing rap albums in the 1990s—he never lost his love for music.
Over the past several years, DJ Diesel has become a legitimate force in the electronic dance music world. He’s appeared at some of the biggest festivals on the planet, delivering bass-heavy sets that match the same intensity he once brought to the basketball court.

His annual Shaq’s Bass All-Stars festival has also grown into one of the standout EDM events in Texas, attracting major artists and thousands of enthusiastic fans. The 2026 festival wrapped up earlier this year, and while there’s no official word yet on the 2027 edition, the Texas Takeover tour should help keep the party going.
It’s just another reminder that Shaquille O’Neal refuses to fit inside a single box. NBA legend. Entrepreneur. TV personality. Business mogul. And now one of the biggest celebrity DJs around.
At this point, the only thing left for Shaq to conquer might be country music—but let’s not give him any ideas just yet.
