Shaq Says the Knicks Are Finals-Bound — And He’s Not Backing Down

May 11, 2026

The New York Knicks are rolling right now… and according to Shaquille O’Neal, the rest of the Eastern Conference might want to start preparing for trouble.

Big trouble.

After absolutely steamrolling the Philadelphia 76ers in a second-round playoff sweep, the Knicks have become the hottest team left standing in the East. Their latest beatdown—a 144-114 demolition—had the crew on Inside the NBA buzzing about just how far this squad can go.

And Shaq? Oh, he’s fully aboard the New York hype train.

While Kenny Smith tried to pump the brakes a little, warning that things “get real again” in the Eastern Conference finals, Shaq wasn’t hearing any of it. Kenny pointed out that both Cleveland and Detroit have given the Knicks problems during the regular season and suggested the next round won’t be nearly as easy.

Reasonable take.

But then Shaq did what Shaq does best—ignore reasonable takes completely.

“They’ve shown me they are ready,” Shaquille O’Neal said confidently. “I think they’ll breeze through whoever the next opponent is if they play like this.”

Breeze through.

Not “win.” Not “edge out.” Not “survive in seven.”

Breeze through.

Classic Shaq confidence right there.

Meanwhile, Charles Barkley wasn’t quite ready to hand New York the conference crown. Chuck argued the Knicks had a favorable path so far, saying the Hawks weren’t ready for the spotlight and the injury-hit Sixers simply couldn’t keep up.

Fair enough… but Shaq wasn’t interested in hearing the rest of the speech.

“Knicks going to the finals,” he fired back, cutting Barkley off before he could finish.

And honestly? The way New York is playing right now, it’s getting harder to argue against him.

The Knicks have now won seven straight games after falling behind 2-1 earlier in the postseason, and they’re doing it with serious style. Three-pointers are raining from everywhere, the offense looks unstoppable, and the confidence level is sky-high.

In fact, New York just tied the NBA playoff record for made three-pointers in a game with 25. Not bad for a team that spent years hearing people question whether they could truly contend.

Even crazier? The Knicks currently own the best point differential through 10 playoff games in NBA history. Yep—better than the loaded 2017 Golden State Warriors squad that featured Kevin Durant, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and enough firepower to make video game settings look unfair.

That’s elite company.

Of course, the next challenge is still waiting. The Knicks will face either the Cavaliers or Pistons in the Eastern Conference finals, and both teams bring a different kind of matchup headache.

But at the moment, New York looks fearless.

And when a team starts playing with swagger, momentum, and a city behind it? Things can get dangerous fast.

Especially when Shaq starts making bold predictions on national TV.

Because once Shaquille O’Neal plants his flag on a playoff team, you know the takes are going to get loud, dramatic, and probably impossible to ignore.

So buckle up, Knicks fans.
