Shaquille O’Neal has collected a lot of titles over the years.
NBA champion. Hall of Famer. Business mogul. DJ. TV personality. Papa John’s board member. Occasional destroyer of printer commercials. And now? Add “master’s degree graduate” to the ever-growing list.
The Big Aristotle officially earned his master’s degree from LSU this past weekend, proving once again that Shaq never does anything halfway. The four-time NBA champion walked across the stage at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center with a huge smile, a fresh diploma, and—of course—a few jokes ready to fire at longtime frenemy Charles Barkley.
Because what’s a major life achievement without a little Barkley slander mixed in?
Before Shaq even accepted his diploma, the ceremony emcee introduced him as “Shaquille ‘I Hate Charles Barkley’ O’Neal,” instantly getting laughs from the crowd. Anyone who watches Inside the NBA already knows the routine: Shaq and Chuck spend half their airtime debating basketball and the other half roasting each other like two cousins at a family cookout.
Their rivalry goes all the way back to their playing days, including that famous on-court scuffle years ago. But these days, it’s mostly comedy gold. Honestly, sports television wouldn’t be the same without them arguing over championships, barbecue, or who’s shaped more like a refrigerator.
Shaq earned his degree through LSU’s College of Human Sciences and Education. Even more impressive, his thesis reportedly explored mentorship through Homer’s classic epic poem “The Odyssey.” That’s right — the same guy who once shattered backboards was also out here analyzing ancient Greek literature.
Somewhere, every high school English teacher is smiling proudly.
During his speech to fellow graduates, Shaq mixed genuine life advice with exactly the kind of humor fans love him for. He encouraged students to keep learning, stay curious, and never stop striving for more. Then, in true Shaq fashion, he immediately pivoted into promoting his products.
“Continue to have fun and continue to eat SHAQ-A-LICIOUS gummies at your local 7-Eleven,” he told graduates with a grin.
Classic Diesel.

jokingly called “all the old people” in the audience. Somewhere, millions of sore knees across America nodded in agreement.
But beneath all the jokes, Shaq’s message actually carried some real wisdom. He told graduates that success starts with learning how to fail and using setbacks as motivation instead of excuses.

That mindset has pretty much defined Shaq’s entire post-basketball career. While many athletes settle into retirement, Shaq somehow became busier after leaving the NBA. He’s built businesses, earned degrees, launched brands, and stayed one of the most recognizable personalities on the planet.
Naturally, he couldn’t resist sneaking in one final Barkley jab before wrapping up.
“This is a weird world we live in,” Shaq joked. “One day Charles Barkley was fat. The next day, he’s skinny. I don’t know what happened.”
Never change, Big Fella.
In the end, though, Shaq closed with a message that perfectly summed up the moment: celebrate how far you’ve come, but keep striving for what’s ahead.
Not bad advice from a guy who somehow keeps leveling up long after his Hall of Fame career ended.
